The Big 5 – 0 – 0

Well, my dears I’ve been looking at my stats and noticed something pretty big has happened.

A few posts ago I passed the big 500 mark here on WordPress.

In my twenty two months of blogging I have written, proofed and posted just over 500 posts, much of it nonsense rambling – a bit like this post actually – the rest fiction.

I’ve explored words, explored worlds, from fantasy to sci-fi, to historical and domestic with a bit of creepy horror, blood and guts thrown in.

It’s a bit of a landmark, whichever way you look at it.

It means – at a very rough estimate – I’ve written around 150,000 words on here. Both a good, lovely thing and some might think a bad thing, as if I’d used the same time writing novels, I would have stopped prevaricating and finished the current book by now.

Still, I wanted to take time out to say Ta Muchly, because without people to read my writing, to be positive and encouraging, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have posted so much and so often.

Thanks all and you never know, maybe one day I’ll be here celebrating my thousandth post.

  1. It’s quantity but the pieces I’ve read have all been quality too. I sometimes think I could have written more novels if I hadn’t written other stuff but, the other stuff helps with technique and is rarely instead of but to be valued in its own right. Congrats on the big 500

    1. You’re quite right, Michael. Writing so much and so often, in so many genres and to order has really developed my writing and added quality to the longer pieces I write too, which wouldn’t be as good (however good they are!) without the extra practice.   2. All that Michael’s just said. And how else would you get constant and near-instant feedback on what you do, confirming both its worth and your worth as a writer? Llongyyfarchiadau! as they say (well, some do) in Wales.

    1. You’re absolutely right about the feedback, of course Chris. We’re so often caught in our solitary little bubbles as writers, that social media communities are invaluable for feedback and validation. It takes many of us years to write a book (during which time possibly no one sees it) and only minutes to write flash. What would my little ego do without people like yourself being so positive? 🙂 Diolch yn fawr (according to Wiki) for the congrats

  5. Many congrats, Lynn, and if it’s taken you away from the WIP, well we’ve been the beneficiaries. You could also call it writing practice, which we all should engage in more thoroughly 🙂

    1. You’re definitely right, Tish. All of the flash feeds into my longer works, develops my writing style, has helped me prune as I go along. And it’s terrifically enjoyable. Thanks for the kind wishes 🙂

  7. Congratulations on a great milestone, Lynn! I’ll echo Michael — it’s not the quantity that impresses me so much, but the quantity combined with such high quality. How on earth do you do it? Well, just keep doing that magic. Three cheers for 500, and I’m sure we’ll be toasting to 1,000 in the not so distant future!

    1. Ah, thank you so much Joy – that means a lot :). Problem with flash is, it’s just too much fun to write – can’t keep away from the stuff now I’ve started! We’ll see how long it takes me to reach 1,000. A while longer I should imagine 🙂

      1. That’s the “problem” I have too – flash is fun, and also fast. So I end up writing three flash stories instead of getting any progress on my novel… In terms of how long it will take you to get to 1,000, do you know whether you’re posting more or less often these days than you were earlier? It might take you even less time to get the next 500.

      2. I do the same with flash pieces – it takes real stamina to go to the novel which is ridiculous because once I start writing it is the best things ever 🙂 I think I may be posting more often than I was – about 5 times a week – though not sure if I can keep that up.

      3. I am *definitely* not keeping up writing or even reading or commenting this month. Ah well, there’s always “after the holidays” — when I’m sure I’ll get three months of postponed things completed in January alone, lol!

      4. Yes, I’ve fallen way behind on reading too – trying to get the house straight for Christmas, wrap presents, food shop before my last very long work days. After tomorrow it’s nose to the grindstone until late Christmas Eve. As you say, there’s always January … 🙂
