Whispers and Echoes - Issue 1

 

Last December, I was honoured to be included in Sammi Cox’s Winter Magic anthology on Wattpad – so honoured, I wrote a post about it.

Sammi’s now launched a regular anthology of poetry and short stories – Whispers and Echoes – and I’m delighted to have a couple of my flash fiction pieces included in this inaugural Spring issue.

So why not kick back, jump over to Wattpad and peruse some short reads by a slew of talented writers?

  2. I think Sammi put together a great first issue. Your stories are great — I especially liked “When the factory whistle blows.” Well, I especially liked the Waterfall one too. 🙂

    1. Thank you, Joy. Yes, I think I liked When the factory whistle blows most too, though I liked the quiet tone of the Waterfall one, the unspoken, awkward connection between the two. I loved your poem too – such a stark, barren feel to it, such a feeling of being stripped bare, exposed to the biting cold. I wondered if you had a scenario in mind when you wrote it? Was there a scene in Eneana where the winter goes on forvever, when all feels lost? Great atmosphere you created – I could have read more

      1. Hm, I like your lyrical interpretation, but I’m afraid my inspiration was a boring old breakup, a love gone on too long, exposed by the spring sun as too broken to revive. “Warmth is warmth.”

  3. Awesome. I live Wattpad, its what I’m using right now to edit my story in chapters, the first makes it easier and the odd comment helps:) I have found some great reads on there too as well as some bad writers become very very good 🙂

    1. I confess, though I’m on it officially, I under use the site. So, you find it useful for feedback? Always good to have views on a work in progress – from a potential audience

      1. I do even if it’s just telling my friends to go on and read it, they can comment on each chapter. Having users find your book and get attached to it, so they keep coming back to read is always difficult and as far as I’ve read, there is no secret formula to success on there. As for a site for say beta readers to go to it works great. And I do like reading on it 🙂

      2. I still haven’t got used to reading online – flash and other shorts I can do, but anything longer I can’t manage. Thanks for the interesting insight, though – i’ll need some beta readers in the next few months, so I shall bear it in mind

  4. So glad to have you part of it. I loved both of your pieces; they were both so very different from each other. “When the factory whistle blows” has these vivid descriptive sentences and ends with that emotional last line. And “Meet me by the waterfall”, as you mentioned above, has this unspoken awkward connection between the two people in it and makes you wonder not only what is going on in her life but what will happen next. Great stuff! 🙂
